Everybody has a bucket list of things to do post their retirement. Some would want to travel the world; others might want to buy a new house. I have a plan too, it’s to go away to the hills and live a relatively simpler life there, so that I can be away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Then there are others who might want to pursue their interests, certain things that you enjoyed doing but they took a back seat as you were busy fulfilling your responsibilities towards your family and your job. You could never make time for yourself or what you cherished doing.
What if it was still possible to follow your interests and hobbies and also earn while you’re doing so. All this without the hassle of handling the difficult part linked with entrepreneurship like figuring out the logistics, marketing, finance, etc.
SoldiersecondLife brings to you stories of retired soldiers and their spouses who not only started doing what they loved but also brought it into other people’s lives and shared the knowledge and experiences.
Col. Sunil Prem retired from the army as a Colonel and is now a Director with an IT firm. He was introduced to the magical world of wine making at home by his father. As a kid he was always fascinated by the entire process of crushing the grapes to the fermenting. And later, he was also guilty of wanting to taste the wine from the very first bottle.
This legacy was passed on from one generation to another by his father.
According to Col. Sunil “Nothing brings me more pleasure than making my own wine. It’s the joy that one feels when bringing something into this world and then seeing it being enjoyed by family and friends.” He also confesses that he also enjoys showing off a little too about his knowledge for the same.
He did some initial research and found out that there weren’t any wine making home kits available in India. He then decided that it was a great idea to develop his own kits.
Post this he also started marketing the product. The kit has sold over 100 pieces in India until now.
He also figured out that some new users might have certain queries about the kit. Thus, he then started a blog giving people a platform to talk about wine making and also share their problems and queries.
Similarly there is Capt. Pragya who is an Ex-Army Officer who had retired as a Captain. She has also has a degree from MDI, Gurgaon and is also a certified counsellor from Blackford Counselling Center, UK.
Post her retirement she has used her soft skill training, coaching and counselling experience of 14 years and delivered 60 trainings at Indian Army, Infosys, Deloitte, Dr. Reddy’s, Beam Telecom, ACT Group, Pegasus, etc.
And then there’s Colonel Manoj Kumar Keshwar who enjoys travelling and loves adventure and the adrenaline rush it brings. He is a passionate long distance rider with an aim to see the world on motorcycles. He has always wanted to share his experiences and the passion for travel with others. And has started doing the same by organising tours across the globe.
He says “My partners and I are Ex- Army officers and we are one of most reliable Motorcycle tour organisers in India. We conduct customised motorcycle expeditions in India and North Thailand. I have been able to start my own venture because of the qualities of discipline, reliability and operational excellence that I acquired at the Army.”
